    Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

    Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is not uncommon in the population. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are both types of COPD.

    The main complaints of people with COPD are shortness of breath and deterioration in fitness resulting in decreased participation in exercise and daily tasks.

    Our Day Rehabilitation Unit runs a program to help those suffering from COPD.

    Colorectal Surgery

    Colorectal surgery is undertaken for the treatment of colon or bowel disorders including cancer.

    This surgery is performed by a credentialed general surgeon at Gosford Private who specialises in this field.

    Day Surgery

    Commonly known as ENT, this speciality covers conditions relating to the ears, nose and throat such as hearing loss, deafness, rhinitis, dizziness and vertigo. Such conditions affect both adults and children.

    Endoscopic Procedures

    An endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic medical procedure used to assess the interior surfaces of an organ by inserting a tube into the body.

    The procedure allows visual inspection, photographs to be taken, biopsies and retrieval of foreign objects. Being minimally invasive it’s often used to avoid major surgery.

    A range of endoscipic procedures are performed at Gosford Private including endoscopic breast surgery.

    The majority of endoscopic procedures are day procedures.


    Gastrointestinal health caters for diagnosis and treatment of medical issues such as heartburn, reflux disease, swallowing difficulties, liver disease and cancer involving the gastrointestinal tract.

    Various procedures may be required to aid in diagnosis. These are performed at Gosford Private and include:

    • Upper gastrointestinal gastroscopy which is a scope of the upper gastrointestinal tract (i.e. oesophagus, stomach and duodenum) to determine the existence of ulcers, Barrattt's oesophagus and other problems
    • Colonoscopy which is a scope of the lower gastrointestinal tract (i.e. colon and rectum) to determine if pre-cancerous polyps, cancer or inflammatory bowel disease are present
    • Flexible sigmoidoscopy which is a scope that looks at the lower colon and rectum for pre-cancerous polyps and cancer
    • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) which is a procedure to diagnose possible disorders of the pancreas and bile duct system

    Our Maternity Unit is supported by a Level 2 Special Care Nursery and caters for babies from 34 weeks gestation. More than 800 babies are delivered a year in our Maternity Unit.


    Neurology deals with disorders of the nervous systems. We have a number of specialists at Gosford Private who treat these disorders and who have a special interest multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.


    Gosford Private Hospital is proud to have the only private Neurosurgeons on the Central Coast, all who work in close collaboration with many other specialists as determined by patient needs.


    Gosford Private has a designated Day Oncolog Unit that is supported by highly qualified medical and nursing staff. The unit has 10 dedicated chairs which enable privacy and personalised care.

    Our state-of-the-art operating theatre complex has eight modern operating theatres and a 10 bed recovery unit. This complex caters for general and day surgery patients. All theatres are well equipped for a wide range of surgery and procedures.


    Ophthalmology deals with diseases and surgery of the visual pathways including the eye, brain, and areas surrounding the eye, including the eyelids. A number of ophthalmologists practice at Gosford Private.
